October 18, 2010

Hey there everyone,

I'm happy to report that all is well on the Southern front. The weather is still gorgeous here in McKinney, thankfully. Riding every day is still very pleasant and I'm definitely loving it. The time is still moving by faster and faster, I wish it would cut it out already! Didn't I just write an e-mail yesterday?? Every day is an absolute blast. Even through the momentary disappointments (agency can sure be frustrating sometimes...) , I'm having the time of my life. I cannot convey how much I love being a missionary. I am eternally grateful for this incredible opportunity and privilege that I have to be a representative of the Savior.
The teaching is finally beginning to pick up. Although our long list of potentials isn't necessarily panning out at the moment, we had a new investigator come out of nowhere last week. We have been teaching a less-active member named Steve. Steve's wife Vicky is not a member and although she is very friendly, she seemed completely uninterested in the Church. That was at least, until our last lesson with Steve. As we entered the home  we extended our usual invitation for her to join us. She politely declined as usual saying, "oh, you know you can't convert me, I'm a catholic." We let this pass as we routinely do, but a minute into the lesson, she silently came and sat down. In moments she was listening with extreme intensity to every word we said. After the lesson ended, we could tell her interest had definitely been sparked. She spoke to us more openly and warmly than she had at any time, and asked us question after question about what we as missionaries do and about what we teach. She, without even consulting with Steve, eagerly set the return appointment.
Our lesson with Mark went very well last week. While on exchanges with an assistant to the president and an elder from my district, I taught him about the Restoration. He accepted the commitment to read and pray and seemed to have a renewed interest in the Book of Mormon. He said that if he found the book to be true that he what that would mean. That the Priesthood authority of God was in fact alive in the Church. He told us that if that were the case, he would be baptized as soon as possible. Although we still weren't able to get his family involved in the lesson, we are working on having more members of the ward meet and fellowship them.
We are going to begin teaching another lady this week as well. Her name is Jennifer. She and her husband have 3 small children and she is very interested in learning more about the Book of Mormon. I'll have more to share about her next week I'm sure, so stay tuned!
I hope you are all doing well and I continue to pray for your happiness, safety, and well being. I love you all very much. Thank you for all your continued love and support in your various ways. I deeply appreciate your prayers. I can't wait to hear more from each of you! Keep yourselves prepared for every opportunity to share the Gospel with others. If you are, the Lord will place prepared souls in your path. May He bless you as you continue to exercise your agency in faith and righteousness is my prayer. Until next time; be good, stay safe, and keep the faith!

Love,
Elder Michael P. Lyman
