September 20, 2010

Hello again all!
I hope this letter finds each of you well, happy, and safe! This week was accompanied by a lot of growth for me, as I hope it was for each of you. Of course in order to grow we must be tried and challenged, and this week did just that. In my missionary service I have been striving to develop Christlike attributes, and the one in particular that I have been focusing on is charity. As I pray for and seek to develop more charity I have found that I am more sensitive to the needs, concerns, and challenges that others are facing. I've become much more aware of the difficulties of many of the people I have been called to serve. It has been a great blessing for me to be able to keep a positive outlook even as I myself am tested and challenged daily. I know that each trial or hardship we face brings us the wonderful opportunity to gain a greater understanding and personal application of the Atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ.
One of the ways in which elder Clayton and I were able to keep our focus through some of the difficulties we faced this week was just going to work. We contacted more people, set more return appointments, and found more new investigators than either of us could have possibly expected. Developing more charity has also played a big role in our finding and teaching. I find myself growing bolder in my desire to share the message of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ because I have tasted, if only in small part, of the happiness that it can bring.
Being the last week of this transfer, I'll find out on Saturday my fate regarding the next 6 weeks. I appreciate every second I have in our awesome apartment and in having the use of a car because it may not last long! On the bright side, if I get transferred to a bike area, I won't have to worry about all the great Texas food I've been eating...
The past week has caused me to reflect on the amazing heritage to which I am so blessed to belong. Along with the countless examples of righteous living that I can find in my family, I have been blessed with more incredible examples in my life than I deserve. If you are reading this letter, chances are you are one of those people who has influenced me for the better and helped me to have the incredible opportunity to be in the mission field now. I want to express my love and appreciation to each of you for the impact you have had in my life. I pray that each of us will strive to live up to the heritage that has been left for us. Most importantly, that we strive each day to honor the Godly heritage to which each of us most definitely belongs, as sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father. May we each seek to transform our righteous beliefs into sure knowledge through the witness of the Holy Ghost as the result of our prayers of faith.
I love each of you and I continually pray for you. I am ever grateful for your thoughts and prayers on my behalf. I encourage each of you to always be prepared and willing to bear testimony whenever the opportunity presents itself. You never know who the Lord has prepared and how you might be used to bring about their eternal salvation. Be who you need to be, to have the spirit guide you to where you need to be, when you need to be there. I love you all very much and look forward to hearing more from each of you! Until next time; be good, stay safe, and keep the faith!
Love,
Elder Michael P. Lyman
