Hey again everybody,
As you all know, I was not transferred on Tuesday. I did receive a new companion. The state of my new companion came as a surprise however, because I am training. I was supposed to get a phone call from President Smith informing me of the assignment, but somehow I always seem to slip through the cracks... Oh well! Interestingly enough, my entire district(all 3 of us) are training companionships. I don't know that it's ever been done before, but we have a training district. It's been a lot of fun thus far being able to talk to the elders in my district and discuss the unique challenges that we face as trainers and new missionaries. Our first district meeting with the new missionaries was a really enlightening experience. It will be good for me to get back to sort of get back to the basics.
My greenie's name is Elder Hadlock and he is from Sandy, UT. We are getting along great and he's been pretty open about trying new things and following my suggestions. He's had a little bit of a rough time coming out of his shell and leaving his comfort zone when it comes to doing things like street and parking lot contacting. He is much more comfortable with knocking doors. He's definitely coming right along though. I'm excited to see the great missionary he's quickly becoming. We learn a lot from each other.
Lily's baptism is coming up this Saturday! She is really excited and is so prepared. It is so fulfilling to have the privilege of seeing someone enter the waters of baptism and begin life anew through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
Our week was kind of flat for my taste. Elder Hadlock and I have definitely worked hard and talked to everyone we meet, but there wasn't much visible progress. I'm able to identify the cycles that occur with finding, teaching and baptizing, but being in the midst of things still serves very much as a challenge mentally and spiritually. I've been blessed with seemingly nonstop growth throughout my experience as a result of the challenges though. I'm so grateful for this time I've been given to serve others and to come to a more complete personal understanding of who the Savior is and who I am. The Gospel of Jesus Christ it so amazing and it encompasses so much, but can also be understood so simply. I know that our Heavenly Father loves us and that Jesus truly is the Christ. It really does not matter what happens to us in this life so long as we have the Gospel --and live it.
I'm hoping for more to report next week as we continue to work our hardest here in the Texas heat to search out those prepared children of our Heavenly Father. I love you all a ton and I will continue to keep you in my prayers. Until next time; be good, stay safe, and keep the faith!
Much love,
Elder Michael P. Lyman
