November 28, 2011

11-28-11
Hey Everyone,
This week went by pretty quickly. A LOT went on this week and unfortunately enough of it involved missionary work in my opinion. Monday was spent helping Guerrero finish up preparations to be transferred to Grand Prairie. We got him all packed and to the meeting spot right on time. Monday night was spent with the other 2 missionaries in my district who were also waiting on their new companions. The coordination for the latter part of the day was pretty non-existent and there was a lot to get done in a very short amount of time.
Tuesday found us back at the meeting spot waiting for the van from the city (which was several hours late) to bring our new companions in. My new companion is Elder Miller. He’s from a small farming community in Colorado and he’s a way cool guy. We’ve got a lot in common and we get along really easily. We’ve had a ton of fun together already. I’m pretty excited to see how the next 5 weeks go.
Thanksgiving was very… filling. We didn’t have as many dinners as I had last Thanksgiving (thankfully). We had one at noon and another at 3:00.  2 Thanksgiving dinners was more than enough to make us both miserably full. Friday saw us with 2 more families who doubled up on the meal calendar. They were both celebrating thanksgiving a day late because of family arrangements. We had one meal at noon and another at 5:00.  I ate enough turkey and stuffing to last me a few years…
Saturday found me sicker than a dog and stuck inside for a good portion of the night. We did our best to do some work in the morning and afternoon, but I quickly ran out of steam and we had to call it quits. I was feeling better (with the help of some over the counter meds) by Sunday morning and we were able to go to church. The bishopric was very relieved to see us come in the door because they had lost one of their speakers on the program. They were quick to invite us to share our testimonies and encouraged us to take as much time as we liked.
As far as our teaching appointments, the ones we had scheduled (which weren’t many) all cancelled.  Elder Miller and I did quite a bit of tracting but it didn’t bear any fruit really. I’m expecting this week to be much more successful now that this holiday week is behind us. Hopefully things have slowed down enough to catch some people at home!
I’m sorry I don’t have any exciting news this week; I’m hoping to have lots more to tell about in the next e-mail. I'm glad everyone had a happy and safe Thanksgiving! I love you all very much and I can’t wait to hear from you again soon. Until next time; be good, stay safe, and keep the faith!

Much Love,
Elder Michael P. Lyman
