11-21-11
Hello again everyone!
I hope you all had a great week! First thing’s first; I’m staying in Athens and I’ll be training again (didn't I JUST write one of these?...). There is a scary twist (as always) to this transfer, however; my new missionary is learning Spanish. This will be very interesting… Pray for him.
All the junior companions in my district are being transferred to places I’ve already served. Elder Guerrero is going to Grand Prairie; another Elder is going to McKinney, and another to Rockwall.
I received all the birthday cards and packages at Zone conference. It was tons of fun to read what everyone had to say. Thank you all so much! I especially loved the singing card. Elder Guerrero and I had tons of fun with the party-in-a-box. Thanks Sara! (pictures are on the way soon)
Jeremy received the Aaronic priesthood on Sunday and was ordained to the office of a Priest. It was a great experience to be able to stand in that circle. It’s incredible to see how far Jeremy and his family have come so quickly. The gospel of Jesus Christ absolutely has the power to change us if we are willing to live the commandments.
The last week of the transfer was very… eventful. We had quite a few setbacks, including having to drop some of our investigators who, just a few short weeks ago, were our key focus. Things became pretty frustrating halfway through the week when our finding efforts weren’t yielding any results. Fortunately, we received a media referral from the referral center in the MTC. Upon contacting the referral had us a new investigator. Her name is Karen and she was introduced to the Church while visiting family in San Diego. She happened to visit the local ward where she was visiting, and the Missionaries there did a great job of answering her questions and sending the referral along. She is very interested and an extremely nice lady.
Karen’s referral also yielded more fruit than we expected. She needed help packing some furniture into a truck, so we gladly offered our services. While we were in the middle of moving things, a man who was driving by decided to stop and help. He didn’t know Karen, but just wanted to do his good turn for the day. He was very friendly and actually asked us if we could come to his home and share a message with his family. We also met Karen’s neighbor while doing the service. She and her son were both very nice and accepted our invitation to have us back to their home to share a message as well.
The Athens ward is having a holiday social on Dec 2nd in which there will be dinner and a talent show. The Elders Quorum is doing a skit which they’ve asked us to be a part of. It should be pretty funny. Hopefully I’ll be able to get a copy of the video of the act to send home. I’m hoping my new companion can sing, because I’ve got a holiday duet about missionaries that is pretty funny. We’ve been voluntold for the talent show as a companionship either way, so if my new companion can’t sing, we’ll have to come up with something…
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving week. Take the opportunity to reflect on what you are most thankful for, and share it with someone. I’m eternally indebted to my Heavenly Father for the opportunity to represent Him and His Son in sharing what is most important to those who are most important to Them. The Lord taught, “For behold, this is my work and my glory, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”
May we each carry the spirit of thanksgiving throughout our lives and give thanks in all things. I love each of you and I am thankful for the love and association we share. I pray for your safety and success daily. Until next week, as always; be good, stay safe, and keep the faith!
Love,
Elder Michael P. Lyman
